The area’s sports facilities will triple in size compared to the existing ones. The facilities will be constructed using the latest technology. The facilities will be made modifiable in order to maximize their utilization rates. In addition, a strong Big Data -technology will be built in the area, which enables collection, processing and analyzing of data related to sports, exercise and wellbeing. This data will benefit the users, researchers and product developers. The multidisciplinary nature of the project opens up exciting prospects.
All the existing buildings and facilities in Hippos area, except for Viveca, will be demolished. Lähi-Tapiola arena will be replaced with an indoor sports center which will function as a venue for over 20 different sports. Hipposhalli will be replaced with football hall/stadium and also Gymnastics building will be built next to it. Monitoimitalo will be demolished.
The new multifunctional arena and practice ice rinks will be built where the current football field locates. This new sports and event center holds approximately 6,500 spectators and it will function as a sports, congress, meeting, and event venue, as well as an arena for concerts and other entertaining events. During concerts, the capacity can be as high as 8,000–9,000 spectators.
The arena’s business center will be constructed next to the multifunctional arena, with a grocery shop, specialty retailers, restaurants, as well as a Sports and Wellbeing Know-How Center which will function as a research and development network for sports, exercise, wellbeing and health promotion, including also commercial operations that deal with wellbeing, exercise and sports.
Outdoor exercise park will also be built in the complex area and it will serve all the residents and other interest groups. It will have an important role in improving the area's atmosphere.
